President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the conditional release of individuals held in prolonged pre-trial detention, as part of a new initiative to address long-standing concerns over unnecessary remand.

In a post on X on, President Muizzu said the state has begun implementing an electronic monitoring system to track those released with court-imposed conditions. The system involves tagging individuals with an electronic device on their ankle, allowing authorities to monitor their movements.

The President described the initiative as a collaborative effort among state agencies to provide a sustainable solution to the long-standing issue of prolonged pre-trial detention. He noted that only those who meet the necessary criteria will be released under this arrangement.
