Housing Minister Dr. Abdulla Muthalib has announced that the government aims to complete 4,000 flats under the "Gedhoruveryiaa" housing scheme by September this year.
Speaking at a press conference at the Housing Ministry today, the minister said only 1,000 flats have been completed so far, with water and electricity services expected to be available by July. He added that the ministry is working on the agreements to hand over the completed units.
Additionally the government aims to complete another 1,000 flats by July and finish construction of the remaining units to meet the 4,000-flat target by September.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had previously reviewed and amended the final list of flat recipients announced by the former administration. Although a revised list was issued in February following ACC’s review, the current government has decided to allocate flats based on the original final list. Individuals who do not meet the eligibility criteria will be removed.
The minister also noted that the government has introduced concessions in verifying the information provided by applicants. With these changes, a larger number of individuals included in the original final list are expected to retain their eligibility and receive housing.
