Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel has said the government’s official visits abroad are showing clear benefits for the Maldives, both in terms of development and national interests.
In an interview with state media, Minister Khaleel stated that the Maldives' growing diplomatic relations are contributing to various development projects. He noted that when the current administration assumed office, the situation in the Maldives was not favorable, with the opposition raising concerns about potential economic collapse.
Khaleel said the combined efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Maldivian state have enabled President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu to continuously bring initiatives that benefit the public.
Among the key achievements, he highlighted the resumption of the terminal development project at Velana International Airport and the significant progress made on the Thilamale' Bridge project. According to the minister, only 22 percent of the bridge work had been completed when the government came to power, but that figure has now risen to 57 percent.
Khaleel said the results of the government’s international engagements are evident, adding that the trips are not only about securing assistance but also about ensuring the Maldives' security and sovereignty.
