Former President Abdulla Yameen has said he is not trying to become president again, but cannot stand by and watch the country fall apart under the current administration.
Speaking at a barbecue dinner with supporters held on Friday night in Hulhumalé Phase II, Yameen said he is speaking out against the government due to dissatisfaction with its policies and a sense of responsibility to bring relief to the people.
He stated that he is not after the presidency, but feels compelled to act in the face of what he sees as the country’s ongoing destruction.
Yameen resigned as the leader of the PPM/PNC less than a week after returning to politics. On April 25, 2024, he launched a new party, the People’s National Front (PNF). He claimed no other political leader in the Maldives dares speak to the people as openly and directly as he does.
