First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed highlighted the Maldives’ commitment to expanding affordable and quality healthcare, promoting women’s leadership, and raising awareness on key health and social issues during her keynote speech at the 7th Merck Foundation First Ladies Initiative Summit in Dubai.

Congratulating the Merck Foundation on its 8th anniversary, Madam Sajidha expressed gratitude for being named Ambassador of the “More Than A Mother” campaign and praised the foundation’s support in providing fertility and embryology training scholarships to Maldivian doctors, addressing a critical shortage in the field.

She also outlined ongoing efforts to improve services related to cancer screening, mental health, and combating stigma around infertility and gender-based violence. The First Lady detailed the Maldives’ Gender Equality Action Plan, aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs, enhancing access to justice, and preventing violence against women.

Attending the summit as Guest of Honour, Madam Sajidha emphasized the importance of sustained partnerships to advance healthcare and gender equality in the Maldives.
