President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed the strong and historic partnership between the Maldives and India during Modi’s state visit to the Maldives.

Reflecting on 60 years of diplomatic relations, President Muizzu highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two countries, describing them as a reflection of shared history and a resilient partnership. He expressed appreciation for India’s continued support in developing the Maldivian economy, empowering youth, and maintaining peace in the region.

Prime Minister Modi, during the visit, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the cultural and historical bonds between the two nations and reiterating India’s commitment to the Maldives as a steadfast and supportive neighbour.

The two leaders also delivered joint press statements following official talks held at the President’s Office. President Muizzu stressed the significance of the new agreements signed and the development projects launched during the visit, including India’s continued export of essential commodities under the existing trade agreement.

Modi reaffirmed India’s role as a first responder to the Maldives in times of need and reiterated his “friendship first” policy towards the island nation.

The visit marked a key milestone in Maldives–India relations and set a renewed course for deeper cooperation across a range of sectors.
