President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated the Maldives’ unwavering commitment to its sovereignty, declaring that every inch of the nation’s territory will be protected by Maldivians.

He made the remarks during a historic joint address to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) and the Maldives Police Service (MPS) held on the 60th Independence Day — the first time a Maldivian Head of State has addressed both forces together.

Emphasizing the importance of a strong national defence, President Muizzu noted that the Government’s prioritization of security forces has drawn public attention. He stressed that the Maldives must always be ready to defend its people and vast maritime territory, stating that despite the country’s small population, Maldivians will shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding their homeland.

While acknowledging the need for foreign assistance in technical areas, the President affirmed that national affairs will never be led by any external power. He reiterated that cooperation with international partners would continue, but always on Maldivian terms.

President Muizzu paid tribute to the heroes of independence and urged all Maldivians to honor their legacy by working to preserve the nation’s freedom for future generations.

He concluded by pledging continued support for strengthening the MNDF and MPS, calling it a matter of national pride and responsibility.
