Baarashu MP Ibrahim Shujau has dismissed recent criticisms from MDP Chairman and former Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail, calling his remarks on governance laughable.
Fayyaz, speaking in a podcast shared on social media, criticized the current administration, stating that the government lacks public involvement and transparency. He alleged that institutions responsible for oversight are under the control of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, leaving no avenue to investigate alleged illegal activities.
Responding to the remarks on X, Shujau said that during the MDP’s time in power, despite having a supermajority in parliament, the administration only increased national debt and weakened state-owned companies. He added that the country was pushed to the brink of bankruptcy as a result.
The exchange underscores the ongoing political rift between the opposition MDP and the ruling coalition, with both sides accusing each other of governance failures.
