A group of individuals listed under the Gedhoruveriya housing scheme staged a protest near the Housing Ministry today, expressing frustration over delays in finalizing their flat agreements.

Protesters claimed they had already signed agreements with the previous government to receive flats under the scheme but have not yet been contacted by the current administration to complete the process. They called on the Housing Ministry to announce a specific date for signing the agreements and to clarify the status of their allocations.

While the Ministry of Construction has begun signing agreements with recipients of 4,000 flats under the landlord category, many on the list say they are still waiting without any communication.

The 4,000-flat project, implemented by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) during the previous MDP government, includes 2,800 three-bedroom units and 1,200 two-bedroom units across 32 towers. The construction work was awarded to two Indian contractors.

Protesters demanded that the government honor the commitments made and ensure that all eligible recipients receive timely updates and access to the flats promised under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.
