Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has said the People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group will remain united and strong despite what he described as attempts to divide members through “false news.”
His comments follow claims by Velidhoo MP Mohamed Abbas that 13 or 14 PNC MPs were planning to leave the party and align with the opposition “for the sake of the country and the people.” Abbas also alleged that members criticized the government’s policies during Wednesday’s PNC parliamentary group meeting, raising concerns over stalled constituency development and accusing the government of only making announcements and laying foundation stones.
In a post on X, Abdul Raheem denied these claims, saying he was present at the meeting and no such remarks were made. He accused Abbas of spreading lies and reiterated that “the PNC parliamentary group will be stronger than the false news spread.”
