Former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom has rejected claims made by President Yameen Abdul Gayyum regarding the reason for his arrest in February 2018, calling them “absolute lies.”
In a statement issued on his behalf on Friday, Maumoon said Yameen’s allegations that he bribed Supreme Court judges are baseless, unfair, and defamatory. He emphasized that the Supreme Court order of February 1, 2018, had no connection to him and that he never engaged in any bribery during or after his tenure.
The statement added that legal action is being considered against Yameen for making these untrue claims. Maumoon reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the Constitution and laws of the Republic.
