The Jumhooree Party (JP) has announced it is considering legal action against former President Yameen Abdul Qayyum over his statements about party leader Gasim Ibrahim.
JP Secretary General Azleen Ahmed said Yameen made unsubstantiated claims about Gasim and his son during a program broadcast by a local media outlet, describing the allegations “false and strongly condemnable.”
Azleen added that the party’s legal team is reviewing the matter for potential action.
He also criticized Yameen for past allegations of money laundering and political oppression during his tenure. Azleen previously served as Interior Minister in President Yameen’s administration from August 1, 2016.
The interview in question also featured Yameen’s remarks about former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, which Maumoon has denied and is reportedly considering taking legal action over as well.
