The House of Representatives has approved the appointment of Mohamed Shafiq Mahmood as a member of the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).
The 65-member House confirmed Mahmood, who previously served as CEO of the Local Government Authority, Managing Director of state media, and held senior roles in the Airports Company.
Mahmood received over 75 percent of the committee’s marks, surpassing the threshold required for approval. The other nominee sent forward by President Dr. Muizzu, Mohamed Faris Thoha, did not meet the 75 percent threshold and was not sent to the House for voting.
