Former Nolhivaram MP Mohamed Nasheed Abdulla (Mosta) has issued a public apology for supporting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, saying he feels ashamed and regrets helping bring the current administration to power.
Speaking at the People’s National Front (PNF) rally lead by former President Abdulla Yameen on Thursday night, Mosta said the government’s actions had left citizens struggling with rising costs and economic uncertainty.
He pointed to the hike in tobacco prices while vape prices remained unchanged, questioning the government’s policy direction. Mosta also noted that the exchange rate for the US dollar has climbed above MVR 20, despite Muizzu’s campaign pledge to resolve the currency crisis. He added that small businesses were collapsing under current conditions, further burdening ordinary people.
Mosta said he had not anticipated such outcomes when he backed Muizzu’s rise to power and expressed shame and regret over his decision. He concluded by urging President Muizzu to resign.
