Former Vice President Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has accused PNC MPs of undermining the country’s Constitution through proposed legislation aimed at controlling independent media.

His remarks came after journalists raised concerns over the government’s bill to regulate the media. In a post on X, Jameel said the actions of PNC MPs are eroding the Constitution and weakening the rights of the people. He argued that PNC representatives bear responsibility for repeatedly creating unconstitutional laws that strip away public power.

Jameel described the MPs behind the bill as betraying the people’s trust and called for them and their descendants to be boycotted.

Meanwhile, several journalists have staged protests against the proposed media control bill. Public concern is also growing over the amendment to the Decentralization Act, which opposition parties claim was introduced to deprive citizens of their rights.
