First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has urged healthcare professionals, institutions, and communities to prioritize research, timely care, and collective action to tackle the growing impact of endometriosis on women’s health in the Maldives.

Speaking as the Guest of Honour at the closing of Workshop Series Episode 3, “Embracing Wellness: A Holistic and Evidence-Based Approach to Understanding Endometriosis in Light of Current Research”, organized by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' of Maldives (SOGM), the First Lady stressed that staying informed about the latest research, diagnostic methods, and treatment options is essential.

She highlighted the resilience of women living with endometriosis, many of whom suffer chronic pain in silence while managing personal and professional responsibilities. Acknowledging the stigma surrounding menstrual health and frequent misdiagnosis, she called for early detection, compassionate care, and stronger community engagement.

Welcoming the Government’s decision to extend Aasandha coverage to include treatment for endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), she described it as a landmark step towards equitable healthcare access.

The First Lady also urged institutions to implement workshop recommendations, develop a national action plan, and expand menstrual health awareness in schools, commending SOGM’s role in connecting specialists and advancing inclusive care.

She concluded with a call to break the silence around endometriosis and to transform the workshop’s insights into lasting change for women’s health across the country.
