President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has officially designated Maafaru lagoon as part of Feridhoo in North Ari Atoll.
According to the President’s Office, the decision fulfils President Muizzu’s pledge to provide Feridhoo with sustainable sources of income to support future development and economic growth.
The change was formalized under Presidential Decree No. 22/2025, enacted in line with the Decentralisation Act (Act No. 07/2010). The decree was issued by exercising powers vested in the President under Section 134(a) of the Act.
With the enactment of this decree, the appendix of Presidential Decree No. 2/2025 on the determination of inhabited islands has been updated to include Maafaru lagoon as part of Feridhoo. The updated decree has been published in the Government Gazette.
