Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed has said the previous government left the Islamic Ministry with MVR 50 million in debt, adding that MDP members should be ashamed to question him in Parliament.
Dr. Shaheem made the remarks while answering questions from Hithadhoo South MP Ibrahim Nazil. He clarified that the company building the Hithadhoo mosque had been paid fairly, but construction delays occurred because the previous government had awarded contracts to incompetent firms.
“Fifty million was lost—shame on you to ask,” the minister said, expressing displeasure in the House and urging members to listen carefully to answers.
MDP members protested during the session, and the Speaker of the House later announced the names of some members involved in the disruption.
