Maradhoo MP Ahmed Didi has accused the government of betraying single mothers by failing to deliver on its election promises.
Didi’s remarks came after President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced that the monthly allowance for single mothers would be increased to MVR 3,000 starting January next year.
Speaking at an MDP gathering, Didi recalled that during the presidential campaign, President Muizzu had pledged to provide single mothers with MVR 12,000 and housing. He said many single mothers voted for Muizzu based on that promise, only to be let down.
Didi said reducing the pledged amount to MVR 3,000 and calling it promise fulfillment is an insult to single mothers and a betrayal disguised as progress.
