In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed criticized President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu after Fuvahmulah Mayor Ismail Rafeeq was not given the opportunity to speak at a rally held during the President’s visit to Fuvahmulah.

Dr. Jameel questioned how long President Muizzu could maintain control over dissenting voices, comparing the situation to the recent US mayoral election. He cited the election of Zahraam Mamdani, a Muslim youth, as Mayor of New York City despite opposition from powerful figures, including former President Donald Trump.

He argued that President Muizzu should take the lesson that leaders cannot suppress the will of the people, and highlighted that Mayor Rafeeq, a young and educated leader elected by the local majority, deserved recognition and the chance to address constituents.

Dr. Jameel has been a vocal critic of President Muizzu, frequently raising concerns about the administration’s tolerance for differing opinions and the handling of local governance.
