Former Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed has accused the President’s Office of engaging in illegal activities by altering regulations to justify its actions.

His remarks came after the government awarded MVR 658 million worth of projects to companies with interests connected to some People’s National Congress (PNC) MPs.

In a post on X, Jameel said the President’s Office is changing its own rules, which he described as “absolutely illegal.” He noted that Article 115 of the Constitution requires the President to uphold the rule of law, which includes ensuring transparency and preventing corruption.

He also highlighted Article 103, which prohibits MPs from using their positions for unlawful gain.

Jameel accused the government and ruling party MPs of working together in ways that amount to theft and corruption, adding that accountability for these actions is inevitable.
