The government has officially launched its new housing policy, Housing for All, aimed at ensuring every citizen has access to housing. The policy was inaugurated by Dr. Abdulla Muththalib, Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure.
Formulated under the guidance of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the policy outlines rules for implementing housing projects, allocating flats, and distributing land. Opportunities under the policy are structured into four main categories:
1. Providing housing units and land on a commercial basis for those financially able.
2. Implementing affordable housing projects for middle-class families.
3. Facilitating access to housing under a rent-to-own model for those unable to purchase their own homes.
4. Providing housing to the poorest and homeless families based on government assessments.
The government has also introduced a scheme to allocate flats and land to residents, with separate categories for city residents and rural residents living in the city. Allocation will follow either an affordable home ownership model or a rent-to-own model, with specific rules and point systems for awarding flats and land.
President Muizzu announced that 15,000 plots of land will be allocated under the scheme and that the construction of 7,000 flats in the city is being prepared.
