President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Speaker of the Parliament, Mohamed Nasheed received his second dose of Covishield Covid-19 vaccine today.

President received his second dose of the vaccine at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE), while Nasheed received the second dose of the vaccine at the Military Hospital, Senahiya.

In his tweet announcing that he had received the second dose, President Solih urged everyone to get inoculated at the earliest.



President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih launched the “Covid-19 Dhifaau” campaign on February 1, intending to inoculate the entire population against Covid-19. Administering the second dose was initiated on April 3.

There are 09 vaccination centers and 02 mobile teams working under the inoculation drive in the Greater Male’ Region, and 237 vaccination centers active in the atolls. Vaccines are provided free of charge for locals and expatriates. Under the inoculation drive, over 246,896 persons had received the first dose of the vaccine and over 3,737 persons had received the second dose as of yesterday.

In addition to the Covishield vaccine, the Maldives Food and Drug Authority had also authorized the use of the Sinopharm vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine for use against Covid-19 in the Maldives.
