Minister of Foreign Affairs, Abdulla Shahid called on the Prime Minister of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah today and delivered a letter from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to the Amir of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
During the meeting, Minister Shahid highlighted that the close relationship enjoyed between the two countries is one which is based on mutual trust and respect, rooted in the cultural and historical links and shared Islamic values. Minister Shahid expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives for the consistent and constant support provided by Kuwait, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, in helping the Maldives achieve its socio-economic goals.
Speaking on the topic of the Covid-19 pandemic, Minister Shahid underscored that the Maldives remain one of the hardest-hit countries from the Covid-19 pandemic, and briefed the Prime Minister on President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s response and recovery plan. For which, Prime Minister Al-Sabah commended the fast and effective measures adopted by the Government of Maldives to contain and control the Covid-19 pandemic and revive the tourism sector.
The Prime Minister also affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to further enhance the longstanding strong bonds of friendships between the two countries and underscored the readiness of the Government of Kuwait, through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development to assist the Maldives in its developmental endeavors.
During the call, Minister Shahid and Prime Minister Al-Sabah reiterated the commitment of both Governments to continue working closely together, bilaterally and in the international fora, on issues of shared relevance.
Minister Shahid was accompanied at the meeting by the Secretary, Multilateral of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Dr. Hala Hameed, Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Moomina Ibrahim, and Assistant Director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Salman Zaki.
