The worldwide coronavirus caseload has topped 152.4 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 3.19 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.

As per the statistics, the US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world`s highest number of cases and deaths at 32,420,918 and 577,041. India follows in second place with 19,557,457 cases. While in terms of deaths, Brazil comes second with 407,639 fatalities.

Worldwide, newly reported cases are at their highest levels since the beginning of the pandemic. Cases have increased for weeks in a row, with as many new infections reported last week as in the first five months of the pandemic.

India leads the world in the number of new daily cases, hitting a global record of more than 300,000, amid concern that a more contagious variant is fueling the surge. The country is facing an urgent oxygen shortage, and medical facilities are overwhelmed nationwide.
