Since the new year till April 08, Maldives has recorded over 400,000 tourist arrivals in the Maldives.

The Maldives reopened its borders on July 15, 2020, after closing the borders for three long months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As per the statistics of the Ministry of Tourism, so far this year Maldives has seen 403,304 tourist arrivals. The records showed 92,103 tourists arrived in January, 96,882 tourists arrived in February, and 109,585 tourists arrived in March. In addition, 91,200 tourists arrived in February, while during the five days of May, 13,534 tourists have arrived in the Maldives.

As per the Tourism Ministry, in 2021, the top source market for tourist arrival as of May 5th includes Russia with 91,031 arrivals, followed by India with 87,668 tourist arrivals. Ukraine stood third with 22,265 tourist arrivals. Other top source markets include Germany, Kazakhstan, U.S.A, Romania, UK, and the Czech Republic.

The records also show that currently, 29 International flights are in operation to the Maldives, and a total of 723 tourist facilities are in operation. This includes 154 Resorts, 421 guesthouses, 137 Safari vessels, and 11 hotels.

Along with reported coronavirus cases, Maldives announced a state of public health emergency on March 12 last year, the first such declaration under a recent public health protection law. Following this, the Maldives closed its borders on March 27, 2020.

Since the border reopening, the Maldives has seen an increase in tourist arrivals from day-to-day. The Maldives aims to be a safe haven to the tourists amidst the pandemic with precautionary measures taken in every tourist establishment and an initiative in progress to vaccinate tourism industry workers.
