President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended his warmest greetings and well wishes on the occasion of Islamic New Year 1443.
In his written statement issued earlier this evening, President Solih extended felicitations on the joyful occasion to all Maldivian citizens, to the leaders of all Islamic nations, and to all Muslim kith and kin throughout the world.
Continuing his statement, President Solih delved into the history behind the creation of the Hijri Calendar. He stated that the journey undertaken by Prophet Mohammed PBUH from Mecca to Medina had instigated a sacred Islamic realm symbolising patience, empathy and kindness. He stated that all Muslims should study the Prophet's journey and endeavour to personify his sacrosanct virtues of benevolence and close familial bonds. Muslims were able to become a dynamic force within the world because of the embodying of these holy virtues in our communities, he said.
President Solih called on the public to put aside all squabbles and rivalries and to come together in the spirit of blessed kinship and to work towards a society based on Muslim moralities. He urged to let go of antagonistic thoughts, stating that we are duty-bound, as Muslims, to endeavour to create a community where we safeguard Islamic tenets, and defend and support each other with integrity and compassion.
Ending his statement, President Solih prayed to Almighty Allah to bless our nation and all Muslim brothers and sisters in the world. He also prayed that the upcoming year will bring good tidings, prosperity and fortuity to all Muslims.
