The Dornier Military Aircraft donated by India
India sends the Military Dornier Military Aircraft to Maldives, for which an agreement was signed in 2016 during the former President, Mr Yameen’s administration.

The defence action plan agreement was signed during former President Yameens visit to India. As per the Indian Embassy, this Dornier Military Aircraft will be operated under the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) at Hanimaadhoo Airport, while the Indian military will be bearing the operating costs of the aircraft.

The aircraft will be used for Search and Rescue operations, Maritime/EEZ surveillance, Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Relief, surveillance operations against drug trafficking, Illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.

Regarding the Dornier Military Aircraft, MNDF states that this support will increase its capacity in surveillance and stopping maritime illegal activities, along with providing humanitarian aid and support for incidents.

MNDF has also stated that the aircraft will be operated by Maldivian pilots, and engineers and it will have the colors of the MNDF air wing and carry its crest.
