Maldivian passport ranks the most powerful passport in South Asia according to the Henley Passport Index 2022.
The Henley Passport Index is the original, authoritative ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. The index is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The Maldives ranked number 62 in Henley Passport Index in 2021. This year, Maldives passport moved up the list, ranking at 58th, along with visa-free travel to 88 countries.
According to the Henley Passport Index, the Maldives passport has ranked the strongest South Asian passport for three consecutive years including this year.
The second strongest passport in the South Asian region is the Indian passport, ranked 84 on the index. Followed by, Bhutan ranked at 90, Sri Lanka ranked at 102, and Bangladesh ranked at 103. The rest of the South Asian countries; Nepal ranked at 105, Pakistan ranked at 108, and Afghanistan is ranked at 111 on the Henley Passport Index.
Meanwhile, Japan and Singapore passports hold the top spots on the Henley Passport Index, with passport holders allowed to travel to 192 countries without a visa, making them the most powerful passports globally.
