If you are in direct contact with a Covid-19 positive case but have been fully vaccinated, quarantine is no longer required, says the Health Protection Agency (HPA) of the Maldives.

In an announcement today, HPA said that being fully vaccinated is considered if 14 days have been passed after the booster dose or the third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and if six months have yet not passed since getting the second dose.

The announcement further read that fully vaccinated direct contacts are no longer required to quarantine. But if the direct contact person is showing symptoms they are required to do a PCR test or antigen test and should be quarantined until the test result. If the result turns out negative, quarantine will no longer be required.

Fully vaccinated direct contacts are also required to do a PCR test or an antigen test within 5 days even if the initial result comes negative.

If the direct contact person is living in the same residence as the Covid-19 positive person, they are required to quarantine even if fully vaccinated and the contact must remain in quarantine until the Covid-19 positive person receives a negative result.

As per the new regulations, a self-testing antigen kit can be used by individuals who show any symptoms of the disease, but isolation and quarantine documents will only be issued once an antigen or PCR test is done from a registered laboratory or a health care facility.

HPA’s quarantine easement comes at a time while Maldives is battling a surge in COVID-19 cases fueled by the new variant.
