Before the resignation of Gotabaya, he did hand over his powers to Ranil Wickremesinghe. Ranil was appointed as Prime Minister in May this year after the resignation of former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Although Sri Lanka has appointed an interim president, the legislature has already begun the process of determining the official appointment to the post.
