At a time when the world economy is in a sensitive time, the government and the people together can only reach the shore of security and peace, President Ibrahim Mohamed Salih has said.

He made the remarks speaking at a special ceremony held at Kurumba today to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldives tourism industry. In his speech, President Solih said that the global economy is still facing major challenges and that it has made some things very difficult.

"Today, the global economy is still not very favorable. The war in eastern Europe threatens the whole world. It has crippled economies and disrupted travel. Food security is beginning to be questioned." The President said.

The President said that in such a sensitive time, any country can reach the shore of security and peace only through the joint efforts of the government and the people.

The President said that in 2020, the world including the tourism industry came to a halt with the spread of the coronavirus. The President said that this has caused huge difficulties for a country like the Maldives that relies on tourism.

The President also said following the Covid-19 outbreak, the decision to close the border was taken after many people had refused and that the decision to reopen the border was also taken against some people. However, they were good decisions and that is why we have reached this point today, he said.
