Gasim Abdul Kareem has been appointed as the president of the National Integrity Commission (NIC).
Gasim Abdul Kareem is well known for his whistleblowing act for the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) embezzlement and money laundering scandal. Along with Gasim, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed a total of four members to the NIC on 26th October.
During the Parliament sitting held today, Speaker of the Parliament, Mr. Mohamed Nasheed has announced that President Ibrahim Solih has shared appointing Gasim for the president of the NIC, to the Parliament.
The members of the NIC include Gasim Abdul Kareem, Lh.Naifaru/ Nikagasdhashuge, Aminath Shadiya, M.Pisthaage, Uza. Ashiyath Shiuna, G. Dhoores Villa, Uz. Shuaib Abdul Rahman, Dhaftharu. No RS 1188 and Karnal Retired Ahmed Jihad, V. Dhivethi.
The NIC Act applies to the following Law Enforcement Agencies and their employees;
- The Maldives Police Service established under Law No. 5/2008 (Police Act);
- The Maldives Customs Service established under Law No. 8/2011 (Maldives Customs Act);
- The Maldives Correctional Service established under Law No. 14/2013 (The Maldives Prisons and Parole Act);
- Maldives Immigration established under Law No. 1/2007 (Maldives Immigration Law)
