Minister of Defense Mariya Ahmed Didi has stated yesterday that MDP is not an ideology that revolves around a particular person.
Mariya said this while speaking at the "Kuriah Ibu 2023" (Forward Ibu 2023) rally held at the MDP headquarters yesterday. Speaking at the rally, Mariya said that MDP allowed freedom of conscience and thought. And that MDP is not an ideology that revolves around a particular person and the party's life is not revolving around a person.
In addition, Mariya, who had also been a Chairperson of MDP before, said there are people in MDP who believe that a certain people should be in power.
The Minister said that MDP came out of the 30 year old one man ideology to give everyone freedom of expression and assembly. And that democracy has been achieved but the current government could be lost based on actions in the internal election.
"You will see today the fear we had when we came out in 2018. That is the fear that is going on here in front of the headquarters. They will try to silence the people. You see the patience of the President. During President Yameen's reign until 2018, even when we came here to merely have some bodubaiy, the Police forces, who were supposed to protect us, were sent to confiscate the bodubaiy. We don't know how many of our speakers here have been taken away," said Mariya, referring to the opposition PPM rally held in front of the MDP headquarters then, and Yameen's government's actions against MDP rallies in the headquarters during his reign.
Mariya also said that President Solih is out to develop the whole country. She said that this can be seen and his trips to the islands are showing it. She added that, with President Solih the people will have a prosperous five years.
