A balloon from the Google Loon project falls in Maldivian waters.

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) Male’ area commander reports receiving the report of a Google Loon project balloon falling into Maldivian waters at 10:08 am on Thursday. The incident was reported by the Civil Aviation Authority.

Following the reports received, MNDF southern area officers were deployed to search and retrieve the balloon from the G.dh atoll sea. It was later handover it to the google team working in the Maldives around 11:50 am.

Google Loon project is a network of stratospheric balloons designed to bring Internet connectivity to rural and remote communities worldwide.

MNDF has reported that nobody was injured from the incident, nor it had brought any dangers.

The retrieval of the balloon was coordinated within MNDF Male’ area Coast Guard, MNDF Southern area Coast Guard, Hulhule’ Air Traffic Control, and Maldives Civil Aviation Authority.
