Maldivian civil organizations joined together, issued a statement to boycott products of France.
The statement calls to boycott the products of France, following the President of France, Emmanuel Macron’s support of secular laws that deem caricatures depicting the Prophet Mohamed as protected under freedom of speech has led to protests in Islamic nations and calls to boycott French products.
All the civil organization called the government to put on halt and boycott any trade or business agreements or any bilateral or political partnerships with France until France stopped and apologized for their cowardly actions belittling and insulting the Prophet (ﷺ).
Furthermore, the civil organization also urged to boycott French products through individual responsibilities even if the government does not respond to the statement by civil organizations.
The Maldivian government has expressed deep concern over the increase in aggression and provocative rhetoric towards the religion of Islam and the beloved Prophet (ﷺ). Maldives categorically condemns such acts and deem them as none other than hate speech.
The Maldives is among countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Morocco, which have condemned the actions of France.
