National security spokesman for the White House John Kirby stated on Monday that the US has welcomed Saudi Arabia's news that the Kingdom would donate $400 million in humanitarian relief to Ukraine.

Saudi Arabia announced the $400 million humanitarian aid for Ukraine as the country's foreign minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud met President Volodymyr Zelensky and top Ukrainian officials on Sunday in Kyiv. The assistance is a fulfillment of the commitment made by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to provide Ukraine with further humanitarian relief during a phone chat with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in October 2022.

The agreement includes a joint cooperation program to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine worth $100 million. It also includes the financing of oil derivatives worth $300 million as a grant submitted by the government of Saudi Arabia through the Saudi Fund for Development.

The visit was the first by an official Saudi delegation to Ukraine since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1993.
