The Labor Relations Authority (LRA) has stated that if employees are not receiving their Ramadan allowance, they should file complaints with the LRA.

LRA has asked employees to submit a complaint through its website or in person if they have not received their Ramadan allowance in accordance with the law.

Article 51 (a) of the Employment Act states that every Maldivian employee shall be paid MVR 3,000 as Ramadan allowance before the commencement of the month of Ramadan.

Therefore, the Labor Relations Authority has already directed all employers to pay Ramadan allowances to their employees as stipulated in the Employment Act before the start of the month of Ramadan.

LRA said some employers do not pay Ramadan allowances to employees. The authority has also noted in the past that some employers, even though they paid the allowance, it was not paid to the extent stipulated in the law.
