The Ministry of Environment opened the opportunity for the public to submit opinions on the rules on reducing and banning single-use plastics yesterday.

The Environment Ministry said the opportunity to submit comments on the rule is open until 2:00 pm of Thursday, April 10.

The Ministry stated that those who wish to submit their opinions on the rule can get the template from the link on the Ministry's website or the QR code on the Ministry's Twitter post.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on 10th November 2021, approved the Second Amendment to the Environmental Protection and Sustainability Act, which prohibits the import, manufacture and marketing of single-use plastic products in Maldives.

In addition, the list of single-use plastics prohibited from import, manufacture and marketing in the country was determined by a Presidential Decree on 20th December 2022, pursuant to Section 30 (c) of the Waste Management Act.

The Presidential Decree banned the manufacture and marketing of 13 environmentally harmful plastic products in Maldives from certain dates.
