The Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) has said that the situation of the expatriate workers of an Indian company working in Hulhumale' is being closely monitored, as the employees have been on strike.

The employees of JMC Projects (India) Ltd, which is constructing housing units in Hulhumale' Phase II, are on strike due to non-payment of their salaries and inadequate food and drink arrangements. It has been 3 days since they stopped working.

The HRCM said today that the commission's rapid response team visited the employees' accommodation block last night following their strike. And that they are looking into the complaints of the employees.

JMC was awarded the contract to build 2000 housing units in Hulhumale' Phase II last year by Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited.
