A police truck was the target of an explosion on Monday in a market in the city of Quetta in the southwest of Pakistan that left four persons dead and fifteen injured, according to a hospital official.
According to a senior police official who spoke to Reuters, the acting superintendent of police investigations' car, which was parked in Kandahari Bazaar, was the target. According to early accounts, a motorcycle parked behind the car had an improvised explosive device (IED) hidden inside it.
SSP Operations Zohaib Mohsin Baloch reported that two police officers who were seated inside the car were among the fatalities.
The initial investigation revealed that 4 to 5 kg of explosive was used in the motorcycle, which was detonated by remote control, he added.
This is the second attack on police in less than 24 hours. On Sunday evening armed men targeted personnel of the Police Eagle Squad in Quetta, killing two police officers and injuring another. One of the attackers was killed by police.
