The Democrats, a political party led by President Nasheed, has submitted over 3000 forms to the Election Commission today for registration.
After the defeat in the ruling MDP presidential primary, President Nasheed's close associates continued conducting political activities in a separate faction of MDP under the name of "Fikuregge Dhirun" (loosely translated to; revival of an ideology). Which has lead to form a new political party under the name of 'The Democrats'.
The Democrats is led by the members who resigned from the ruling party MDP after the new faction was introduced.
The party has handed over 3,560 forms to the Election Commission today for registration.
Although the formation was lead by former President Mohamed Nasheed, the party submitted its registration to the EC under the name of Parliament member for West Henveiru constituency, Hassan Latheef.
