Ruling party MDP gains G.dh. Vaadhoo Island Council majority.
This is a major achievement for MDP as the party aims on increasing it's membership. With the presidential election looming, similar to other parties MDP is also trying to recruit new members and increase their support.
Announcing the achievement, MDP said today that G.dh. Vaadhoo Island Council Vice President Haashir Mohamed, Council members Mohamed Shifag and Maariyath Ibrahim has joined MDP. After signing the membership forms, they were handed over to the MD of FENAKA Corporation and the MDP National Council President for Gadhdhoo constituency Mohammed Saeed.
With the Election Commission's amendment to the Political Parties Act, about 39,000 members of the MDP were removed from the register. However, MDP is now aiming to recruit more members than before.
