Parliament member for Addu Meedhoo Constituency, Rozaina Adam, has accused the Speaker and Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of hijacking the House.

Rozaina made such a statement in a tweet referring to Speaker Mohamed Nasheeds' decision on being reluctant to preside at the house session where the debate for the no-confidence motion against Vice-Speaker Eva Abdullah is scheduled.

Rozaina said the untrustworthy president and vice-president are abusing and holding on to the position and has hijacked parliament. She also accused them as cowards who will not resign although they are reluctant to take on the responsibilities.

Earlier, Nasheed sent a letter to the House saying he is reluctant to sit as the chair as soon as Eva’s case was scheduled on the agenda for this Tuesday’s session. However, Nasheed has attended the parliament and participated in other activities today.

Nasheed also excused himself from the sessions after the no-confidence motion was filed against him.

The no-confidence motion against Speaker and Vice-Speaker was submitted by the ruling party, MDP parliamentary group. The no-confidence motion against the Vice-President of the Parliament was filed with 50 signatures, and the no-confidence motion against the Speaker of Parliament was submitted with the signatures of 54 members. Both have refused to resign or step down from the position.
