The Environment Protection Agency (EPA) has said that the prohibition order on catching, killing or harming sea turtles remains valid.

EPA was responding to misinformation circulated in the media on the protected species, said the agency in a press release yesterday.

EPA blamed ‘some news agencies’ of sending their audiences wrong and misleading signals and messages following the removal of sea turtles and species of rays from list of banned species in the Fisheries Act.

EPA said that even though the species have been removed from the Fisheries Act, they are protected in the Environment Protection and Preservation Act.

In its press release, EPA warned that proper corrective legal measures will be taken against those who breach the protection order.

Unconfirmed reports say that, turtle-meat is occasionally consumed in many islands where they believe that it gives a boost to bedroom performance among other benefits.
