President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government has increased monthly allowance for persons with disabilities from Rufiyaa 2000 up to Rufiyaa 6000.

President Solih decided to increase the allowance in line with the relevant law on provision of financial assistance to protect the rights of disabled persons and after having consultations with his cabinet ministers.

Following the decision, National Social Protection Agency (NSPA), said that starting from this month all the recipients in their register will be credited with Rufiyaa 3000, a fifty percent increase from the Rufiyaa 2000 distributed over the past several years.

In addition to the minimum eligible amount of Rufiyaa 3000 for all with disabilities, special cases under the age of 65 will be reviewed and if found to be in need of assistance from others for mobility, an extra Rufiyaa 2000 will be paid monthly. Also, these special cases will be paid an additional Rufiyaa 1000 as self-care allowance.

There were 11,371 names in the national register for the disabled persons at the end of May. The government distributed Rufiyaa 111.22 million from January to May in financial assistances to disabled persons this year.
