President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has okayed on Thursday awarding vacant flats to applicants who had scored below 50 points in the Civil Service category of Hiyaa Housing Scheme where 7000 flats were developed for public housing needs.

This approval will house 146 civil servants in the Hiyaa Housing town in Hulhumale’ Phase Two where 6,720 flats were reportedly awarded to applicants in 2021.

In late 2021 people started moving into the 25-storey sixteen towers located in Hiyaa Housing Town which was developed during President Yameen’s government with the assistance from the friendly government of the People’s Republic of China (PRC).

President’s Office said that the decision was made following recommendations from the Cabinet after deliberations on a paper presented by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure.

According to the President’s Office, the Cabinet discussed the issue of providing flats to 45 individuals who were previously ineligible for allocation in the Civil Service category due to scoring below 50 points in the Hiya housing scheme.

The permanent list does not include individuals who scored below 50 points in any category other than the Civil Service category.

The housing scheme allocated a specific number of flats for individuals working in technical fields in the Civil Service and Malé City Council.
