It is a privilege and honour to work with established women diplomats, Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid said today.

Minister Shahid made the statement on the occasion of International Day of Women in Diplomacy (IDWD). Sending his well wishes on the occasion Shahid said it is important to recognize and appreciate the valuable services women are doing in the diplomatic field.

"Everyday, I am privileged to work with incredible, determined, and established women diplomats," said Shahid.

"Let us celebrate and honour their invaluable contributions to the field of diplomacy."

The International Day of Women in Diplomacy (IDWD) was established during the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The IDWD was commemorated with efforts led by the Maldives to pass a resolution marking the importance of it, said Minister Shahid.

The resolution adopted by the UNGA recognizes the importance of women’s contributions in diplomacy and the essential need for equal participation of women in decision-making, in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a result, June 24 was designated as the official International Day of Women in Diplomacy.

The International Day of Women in Diplomacy is observed annually on June 24 to honor and recognize remarkable women in the fields of diplomacy and decision-making across the globe.
