Blaming MDP for the present stalemate in the parliament, Jumhooree Party’s leader Qasim Ibrahim has said that the People’s Majlis must not be in the present deadlock, paralyzing all legislative works.

Addressing a council meeting of Jumhooree Party (JP) held yesterday, Qasim, one of the longest serving MPs in the Majlis, said that present government exerts undue influence over independent commissions and institutions.

Showing evidence of the government’s corrupt behaviors to the participants in the meeting, Qasim said that Anti-Corruption Commission submitted to present government’s undue pressures in blocking lease of Vaavedhdhifalhu lagoon owned by Villa Shipping and Trading Company. He also said that official and final registration of The Democrats is delayed by the present government.

He also said that due to the present deadlock in the parliament, all three branches of the government are heading towards a situation where law stops ruling.

“It (leading the Majlis into deadlock) is not an exemplar behavior. Ruling party caused the deadlock. You (the president) should not do this solely to remain in power”, Qasim said in the meeting.

Qasim believes that he has always been a national reformer and still is one. He also said that he is contesting in this year’s presidential race as he sees thousands in poverty across the country and that he believes that the dreams of reformists are still unfulfilled.
