President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that he would be working within the set parameters of the Constitution.

Speaking to media after a ceremony held at Salt Lake Café in Male’, to officially accept MP Abdullah Jabir – Kaashidhoo Constituency, into the membership of President Solih’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) yesterday, the President said “I will work within the boundaries set by the Constitution”.

He also said that he will continue upholding the Constitution, even while dealing with his family and party members.

“I will be working within the laws. I will not break them. Increasing strength of someone’s anger against me, will not tempt me to function beyond the set boundaries of the Constitution”, President Solih said responding to a recent accusation from Qasim Ibrahim, Leader and the Presidential Candidate of Jumhooree Party.

Moreover, Solih said “so far I have not exerted any undue influence over independent institutions. I’ll never do that. I will hold my ground within the parameters of the Law”.

Qasim have accused President Solih’s government for blocking lease of Vaavedhdhifalhu Lagoon owned by Villa Group in Male’ Atoll, in his words, by exerting undue influence over the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Qasim said that the government’s illegal interferences in the functions of the independent institutions are managed and delivered by Ali Zahir, the Chief of Staff at the President’s Office.
